A Glossary of Aggie Terms and Lore

Why, exactly, do farmers fight?  And how do you Hullabaloo, Caneck. Caneck?  And what is a dead elephant?  If you are new to the World of AggieLand, you may want to know the answers to these and other questions.

Texas A&M is steeped in tradition and rich in history and lore, some of which may be confusing to the first-time Aggie student or parent.  "From the outside looking in you can't understand it, and from the inside looking out you can't explain it."   This phrase is often quoted to describe the difficulty outsiders have understanding Aggie culture, and Aggies have articulating their love for Texas A&M.  Nonetheless, there are many websites which list and describe Aggie terms and history.  Here are some of our favorites:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_A&M_University - This website gives a brief history of Texas A&M University, and also includes information on its rankings, endowments and research.

http://class.aggienetwork.com/classof2000/Aggie_Lore.htm - This website lists many of the Aggie traditions and also gives the words to many of the Aggie Fight songs with links to play them.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glossary_of_Texas_Aggie_terms - This is a Wikipedia website that is quite thorough in its listing of terms; it also provides good pictures of many Aggie events.
